Case Summary

The case concerned the use of National Integrated Management System (NIIMS), also known as Huduma Namba, by the Kenyan Government. This was a biometric registration system aimed at consolidating all personal data into a single identification number for each citizen and foreigners living in Kenya. A coalition of civil society organisations challenged the system, leading to a ruling that required the government to enact adequate data protection laws before further implementation of the system.
